According to Brian Sekandi, chief search consultant for Gilmore Partners in Toronto, the market for consumer packaged goods (CPG), which includes toys, beverages, and goods offered in supermarkets and ethnic markets, is expanding. Using a network of contacts in the consumer market, a CPG sales director places the product on a national level. You’ll need an MBA to launch your career as a junior CPG salesperson. Sekandi explains, “You’re like a brand manager, but you do many other things. “You’re not just selling the product; you’re fully engaged in the business.”

Base salary for digital media sales: $170,000 to $180,000

While conventional print, broadcast, and cable continue to decline, the market for digital ad sales is still expanding. Rick Linde, a partner with executive search firm Battalia Winston in New York City, advises those in the media industry to move over to the digital side and focus on banners, buttons, and search engine optimization because digital firms still have money.

The caveat is that you can’t have any qualms with seeing blood because medical device marketers frequently work alongside doctors in operating rooms and must demonstrate their products.
